Chapter 12
Gabi watched him go, giving her a good view of his beautiful backside. Already she missed him pressed against her and inside her. Her core ached, and she laid back on the pallet of a standard military issued bedroll.
No longer inside Hazim’s compound, her mind raced. She wasn’t home free, yet. What would happen to Kaia? She couldn’t stay here. What would Hazim do if he found her? Found Kaia?
Hearing voices up along the tunnel, Gabi’s body protested as she scooted off the pellet and crawled closer to listen. Her core throbbed the closer she moved toward Blaze.
What are you doing, Gabi? Blaze said to rest. This isn’t your business. She leaned closer, trying to listen. Everything about Blaze and her escape had become her business.
“What do you plan to do about the female?”
Gabi tensed.
“She is of no concern of ours. We complete the mission,” Blaze said, his voice dropping low.
No concern? What had she expected? If she learned anything from her time under Hazim’s roof, it was that females were expendable. Human ones more so than dragon-blooded ones. Did Blaze feel the same way?
Hazim had five wives—four—Gabi thought of Kaia. Her head started to throb at the temples. She slid away from her place by the smooth, cavern wall. Pressing her hand against it, she marveled at the feel of it. The wall cool to her touch despite the heat of the lava fields she’d grown used to in the years of her captivity.
Feeling the weight of her situation and not wanting Blaze to find her eavesdropping. She moved back and curled up on the pellet forcing her eyes to close, so when Blaze returned he would think her asleep and hope the pounding on her brain would ease. For once, her body agreed with this plan, as long as it meant Blaze pressing that hot body of his to hers once more.
You’re a fool, Gabriella Pisano. Hadn’t her sister Paisley warned her about fast-moving men? They only wanted one thing. One and done. Not this girl. Gabi softly touched the pink skin on her wrist that would most likely scar. Perhaps Hazim had done her a favor, after all.
She must have drifted because later she woke to that hard pressing body and his arm and found him clothed. Trying to roll out of his embrace, Blaze’s arm tightened around her. Gabi’s attempt brought her ass in contact with the hard length of his desire.
“I wondered how long you would rest before we continued where we left off.” He nuzzled her neck.
“I-I have a headache.” She did, but not really, not anymore. A slow burn started deep in her belly while her body ached for him all over again. With the rush of adrenaline and the shock gone, anger fueled the burn in her gut.
“I know what is good for headaches.” He nibbled at her ear, running his tongue around the shell, making her shiver.
“Blaze.” Afraid to turn and face him, he’d see the hurt and anger swelling in her chest.
